Echo Company, NMCB 24
On May 6-7, 2000 NMCB24's Echo Company hosted and participated in "Operation Qualfest" at Fort Jackson, SC. The SMI's provided classes on operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the M16 rifle, M9 pistol, M249 machine gun, M203 grenade launcher, and AT4 anti-tank weapon. These classes were held throughout the qualification period and were attended by persons not on the range thereby ensuring ongoing training for all hands throughout the qualification period. Overall, 63 personnel qualified on the M16 rifle, 39 personnel qualified on the M9 pistol, resulting in 102 total qualifications. Furthermore, as a part of berthing and messing in the field, training was provided on field messing, tent erection, and camp maintenance. Finally, each morning and before each evolution, safety briefings were given. The safety briefing reflected a risk assessment written in accordance with Ft. Jackson requirements .
