Delta Company, NMCB 24

On 16-17 March 2002 Nashville Detachment 0424 of NMCB 24 executed Operation Seabee Lift, a Detachment Level Airlift exercise from Grubbs-Kyle Army National Guard Airfield, Smyrna, TN to Fort Campbell Kentucky.

The Detachment hit the ground Saturday morning, at Grubbs-Kyle Airfield, at 0700. They were airlifted from Smyrna at 0900, and subsequently transported to the Air Assault Obstacle Course on Fort Campbell under unfavorable weather conditions. The Air Assault Obstacle Course was a challenge for the Seabees. However, in the Seabee "Can Do" spirit, every obstacle was overcome.

The Detachment also conducted a Map Reading - Land Navigation block of instruction, and provided DOD construction support for Fort Campbell later that afternoon, the day ended with an awards ceremony and an MRE for the evening meal.

The Detachment was airlifted from Fort Campbell to Smyrna Sunday morning, in even worse weather conditions, where they spent the rest of the day on 940.1 and 940.2 training. The evolution was a success despite inclement weather conditions and one CH-47 (Chinook) inoperable. The detachment personnel were really fired-up throughout the entire training period, giving 100%. They experienced a sense of commraderie, accomplishment, and exhaustion, the makings of an excellent training evolution.
