DDG 993 Kidd

The contract to build the USS Kidd was awarded on March 23, 1978 to Ingalls Shipbuilding at Pascagoula. The keel was laid on June 26, 1978 and she was launched over a year later on August 11, 1979. The Kidd was commissioned on June 27, 1981.

Decommissioned and stricken 12 Mar 1998. To be transferred under SAP program. Currently berthed at Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility, Philadelphia PA.

Taiwan announced in early 2001 that it was seeking to buy the four Kidd-class DDGs, and a price of $732 million was reportedly established. In November 2002, the Department of Defense notified Congress that of the possible sale of the USS Kidd, and the other ships of the Kidd class to Taiwan. The four Kidd class destroyers should be delivered to the ROCN in December 2006.
