Port Security Unit 309
PSU 309 is based at Port Clinton, Ohio. It deployed with and operated under Naval Coastal Warfare Group (NCWG) Two, a joint Coast Guard and Navy command at Williamsburg, Va, during the Bright Star 2000 excercises.
The unit received orders to deploy in early February 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 117 members of PSU 309 have been at the unit since Wednesday, Feb. 5. They have been finalizing training, receiving inoculations, and packing up equipment. PSU 309 will soon be deployed overseas in support of the continuing war on terrorism.
PSU 309 ultimately deployed to the Persian Gulf region and provided port security in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
