Software Engineering Center (SEC)

As the largest software center in DOD, the Software Engineering Center (SEC) provides life-cycle software support to the Army for all C4IEWS business and sustaining base systems to provide superior, integrated capabilities to America's warfighters.

The mission of the Information Technology Engineering Directorate is to provide common Information Technology (IT) products and services across SEC, CECOM, AMC, and Army systems, in support of the Army and Joint war fighters. ITED will furnish these organizations with IT infrastructure services that optimize the effectiveness of their operations, corporate software solutions, software logistics (i.e., replication distribution, installation, training and tracking) and interoperability solutions that support: Army Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence/Electronic Warfare and Sensor (C4IEWS) systems.

The mission of the Resource Management Office is to provide centralized oversight and execution of functions relative to financial management, force management, personnel administration, contract management, and administrative services for the SEC mission.

The mission of the Battlespace System Support Directorate (BSSD) is to provide centralized software life cycle engineering, management and support of more than 150 Mission Critical Defense Systems (MCDSs) used in the Communications, Intelligence and Electronic Warfare; Fire Support; Intelligence Fusion; Command and Control; Avionics and Sensors Battlefield Functional Areas (BFAs). The BSSD provides software engineering services for systems under development by the Program Executive Offices (PEOs) and their respective Program Managers as well as the programs under development by the CECOM System Management Center (SMC) and the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC).

The Advanced Battlespace Solutions Directorate serves as the software technical lead in the evaluation, insertion, and integration of advanced software technology especially focused on the Battlespace. Advanced Battlespace Solutions Directorate (ABSD) supports Program Executive Officers (PEO) and Project Managers (PM) during the research, development, and engineering process. ABSD works directly with the user and developer during the initial stages of analysis to ensure efficient system development and timely deployment.

The Business Systems Directorate participates as partners in the integration, coordination, and execution of the Wholesale Logistics Modernization Program. Technical and functional support is provided by the Business Systems Directorate's Logistics Systems Support Office (LSSO) located in St. Louis, MO and the Industrial Logistics Support Office (ILSO) located in Chambersburg, PA.

SEC - Belvoir Software Engineering Delivers information systems, products, and services in both tactical and sustaining base environments. Provides direct, in-theater, fielding support for new systems or change packages for existing systems. Provides on-site information technology assistance to Joint and Army field exercises and deployments. Maintains a center of excellence for software engineering, executive software, software reuse library, and information on emerging technologies.

Ft. Lee Software Engineering manages software engineering support of assigned Standard Army Automated Information Systems (STAMIS). Provides the required automated logistics assistance for force projection, contingency and humanitarian operations.

SEC - Ft. Meade Software Engineering provides communications solutions including Internet, intranet, and military network development and support; implementation and management of local area networks. Provides project management solutions for program and project managers including acquisition planning, business process modeling, analysis of requirements, and project office support. Provides software development solutions including analysis of requirements and application of software architectures (e.g., the Army Technical Architecture, the Joint Technical Architecture, and the Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment). Incorporates software concepts such as object orientation, logical data modeling, Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE), reuse, and maintenance.
