United States Army Aviation Training Brigade
As part of the transformation of the US Army Aviation Warfighting Center to the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence, the United States Army Aviation Training Brigade was inactivated in 2005. The 110th Aviation Brigade (Training) was subsequently activated in its place, taking control of 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation; 1st Battalion, 212th Aviation; 1st Battalion, 223rd Aviation; and the Spanish Helicopter School Battalion. The 1st Battalion, 11th Aviation had already been passed to the Air Traffic Services Command following the Command's activation in 2003.
The Aviation Training Brigade consisted of 5 battalions that conducted flight training at Fort Rucker at 3 training sites. The 1st Battalion, 11th Aviation Regiment provided air traffic control services and flight simulation support for the US Army aviation Center at Fort Rucker and the National Airspace System. The 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment at Hanchey Army Heliport conducted graduate level flight training in the AH-64A, AH-64D and OH-58D aircraft. The 1st Battalion, 212th Aviation Regiment at Lowe Army Heliport trained Army and allied aviators in contact, combat skills and night/night vision devices in the OH-58, UH-1 and UH-60 aircraft. The 1st Battalion, 223d Aviation Regiment, based at both Cairns Army Airfield and Knox Army Heliport, conducted flight training in the CH-47 and C-12 aircraft. It also conducted the Maintenance Test Pilot Courses and provided evaluations of flight training for contractors. The Spanish Helicopter School Battalion at Lowe Army Heliport, attached to the US Army Aviation Training Brigade, provided aviation training for Latin American personnel in support of the United States Security Cooperation Program.
