5th Brigade, 98th Division (Institutional Training)
The 5th Brigade is the health service unit of the 98th Division (Institutional Training). It is headquartered at the historic Fort Hamilton, New York. Its subordinate unit, 11th Battalion (PN/HS), is located at the Devens Reserve Forces Training Area (DRFTA) in Ayer, Massachusetts. The brigade serves the Region A under The Army School System (TASS).
The 5th Brigade (Health Service) was formed with the deactivation of the 1150th and 1154th U. S. Army Reserve Forces Schools in 1996. Both schools served the educational and training needs of Army reservists in the downstate New York area.
In order to comply with the U. S. Army Reserve Command's (USARC) reorganization plan and the The Army School System (TASS) Oplan - 2, the 5th Brigade (HS) officially activated on November 16, 1996.
The brigade is part of a 3,700 - soldier division tasked with providing training throughout the U. S. Army Region A encompassing eight states from New Jersey to Maine.
