6th Brigade, 80th Division (Institutional Training)
The 6th BDE provides professional development instruction for officers and non-commissioned officers. Courses include BNCOC, ANCOC, Drill Sergeant School, CAS3 and CGSC. The majority of the positions are instructor billets with a stablized tenure tours of three to four years. Training and intern time are provided for most instructor slots. Professional development positions within the unit allow soldiers a wide range of promotion and advancement options to include primary staff (BN and BDE) and command positions.
The 6th Brigade, 80th Division (Training) was constituted 16 November 1996 in the Army Reserve as Headquarters, 6th Brigade, 80th Division (Training), and activated at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The 11th Battalion was organized on November 16, 1996. The battalion, with headquarters at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, provides quality Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3) staff officer training in accordance with the Fort Leavenworth Command and General Staff College's Program of Instruction for the Staff Process Course to eligible students enrolled through ATRRS. Highly qualified Staff Leaders facilitate, mentor, advise, assess, and teach small group instruction to United States Army Reserve, National Guard, and Active Component officers in a five-state area. The area includes the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. In Training Year 1999, the battalion conducted 20 classes at 13 different locations and graduated over 280 officers.
