2nd Brigade, 80th Division (Institutional Training)
Based at three locations in West Virginia, the 2/320th is one of two CHEM-OSUT Battalions in the Army Reserve. Our mission is to train initial entry soldiers at Ft. Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training soldiers at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
The Second Battalion, 320th Regiment -- Chemical One Station Unit Training (CM-OSUT) -- mobilizes to Fort McClellan, Alabama. There it is aligned with the 82nd Chemical Battalion to perform augmentation of their Chem-OSUT training mission. During TY 99 the Second Battalion, 320th Regiment is assisting the 82nd Chemical Battalion in their transition to the new US Army Chemical school in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. The Second Battalion, 320th Regiment is considered a non-deployable unit. The mission is to qualify Drill Sergeants in the 54B MOS in order to Provide training and training leadership for entry level soldiers in the career field of 54B (Chemical Specialists), in a One Station Unit Training (OSUT) Battalion. Mobilize the Battalion to augment or assume this mission at the US Army Chemical School, Fort McClellan, AL. Assist other US Army and Reserve units by providing training in basic soldier skills and NBC related subjects.
The 2d Brigade, 80th Division (Training) was constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 305th Ammunition Train and assigned to the 80th Division. Organized in September 1917 at Camp Lee, Virginia. Demobilized 9 June 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. Reconstituted 28 October 1936 in the Organized Reserves; concurrently consolidated with the 305th Ammunition Train (organized in December 1921 in the Organized Reserves with Headquarters at Washington, D.C.) and consolidated unit designated as the 305th Ammunition Train, an element of the 80th Division. Converted and redesignated 12 February 1942 as the 905th Field Artillery Battalion and remained assigned to the 80th Division (later redesignated as the 80th Infantry Division).
Ordered into active military service 15 July 1942 and reorganized at Camp Forrest, Tennessee Inactivated 6 January 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. Redesignated 15 July 1946 as the 905th Glider Field Artillery Battalion (80th Infantry Division concurrently redesignated as the 80th Airborne Division). Activated 21 May 1947 with Headquarters at Bristol, Virginia. Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve. Reorganized and redesignated 18 October 1950 as the 905th Field Artillery (80th Airborne Division redesignated 10 May 1952 as the 80th Infantry Division). Disbanded 23 March 1959 at Bristol, Virginia.
Headquarters, 905th Field Artillery Battalion, reconstituted 24 November 1967 in the Army Reserve as Headquarters, 2d Brigade, 80th Division (Training). Activated 30 January 1968 at Salem, Virginia.
