540th Quartermaster Battalion

The 540th Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum Supply) is headquartered in Lenoir, North Carolina. The 540th Quartermaster Battalion of the North Carolina National Guard served in Desert Storm at Log Base Charlie (Rahfah) Saudi Arabia from October 1990 to May 1991.

The 540th Quartermaster Battalion was organized and Federally recognized 28 April 1923 in the North Carolina National Guard as Headquarters Detachment and Combat Training, 3d Battalion, 117th Field Artillery, an element of the 39th Division, at Lenoir, North Carolina. The 117th Field Artillery relieved 1 July 1923 from assignment to the 39th Division and assigned to the 31st Division. Redesignated 24 July 1925 as Headquarters Battery and Combat Train, 3d Battalion, 117th Field Artillery.

Redesignated 12 January 1927 as Headquarters Battery and Combat Train, 3d Battalion, 113th Field Artillery, an element of the 30th Division (subsequently the 30th Infantry Division). Redesignated 1 July 1940 as Headquarters Battery, 3d Battalion, 113th Field Artillery. Inducted into Federal service 16 September 1940 at Lenoir, North Carolina. Inactivated 1 October 1940 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 5th Howitzer Battalion, 113th Field Artillery, and element of the 30th Infantry Division. Redesignated 10 March 1963 as Headquarters and Service Battery, 1st Battalion, 113th Field Artillery, an element of the 30th Infantry Division.

Converted and redesignated 1 January 1968 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 540th Transportation Battalion and relieved from assignment to the 30th Infantry Division. Converted and redesignated 1 September 1980 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 540th Quartermaster Battalion. Inducted into Federal Service 27 September 1990 at Lenior, North Carolina. Released from Federal Service 5 May 1991 at Lenoir, North Carolina.
