442nd Signal Battalion
"Ready, Rapid, Reliable"
As of mid-2001, the 442nd was undergoing transformation. Prior to that, the unit was part of the 15th Signal Brigade.
Its mission was to provide command, control and training to the permanent party to include the Computer Science School. It provided consolidated billeting, management, and values driven training of long term inactive IET soldiers. The unit was also tasked with installing, operating, and maintaining a three node MSE network supporting schoolhouse, and USASC&FG training and combat development initiatives. Provide UCMJ and administrative support to the Leadership Department. The unit also provided Command & Control for the IBCT Signal Company.
The 442nd Signal Battalion was constituted on 19 July 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 442nd Signal Construction Battalion, Aviation. It activated on 1 August 1942 in Puerto Rico. The unit reorganized and was redesignated on 1 August 1944 as the 442nd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. It inactivated on 30 June 1946 in Japan.
The unit was redesignated on 6 November 1967 as the 442nd Signal Battalion, allotted to the Regular Army, and activated in Thailand (Companies A, B, and C inactivated 14 July 1969 in Thailand). Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 442nd Signal Battalion, inactivated on 30 June 1971 in Thailand.
Headquarters transferred on 23 September 1986 to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command and organized at Fort Gordon, GA.
