3rd Battalion (General Support), 25th Aviation Regiment
C Company, 25th Aviation Regiment
The 3rd Battalion (General Support), 25th Aviation Regiment was first constituted on 17 June 1979 in the Regular Army as Company C, 25th Aviation Battalion, an element of the 25th Infantry Division, and activated at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
The unit was inactivated on 15 October 1985 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii while the 25th Infantry Division reorganized as a new Light Infantry Division. It was reactivated on 16 January 1986 at Wheeler Air Force Base, Hawaii. The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 16 May 1988 as Company C, 25th Aviation and concurrently relieved from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and assigned to the 10th Mountain Division. It was again reorganized and redesignated on 15 October 1988 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation with its organic elements concurrently constituted and activated.
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation, was reorganized and redesignated 15 March 1996 as Company C, 25th Aviation. It was concurrently relieved from assignment to the 10th Mountain Division and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division. The remainder of 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation was concurrently inactivated.
C Company, 25th Aviation began supporting the Global War on Terrorism in January 2004 with elements deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the majority of the company deploying in April 2004 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit was redesignated on 1 October 2005 as Company C, 25th Aviation Regiment.
The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 16 June 2006 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment with its organic elements concurrently activated. These included a a Headquarters and Headquarters Company, a Command Aviation Company, a Heavy Lift Company, an Aerial MEDEVAC Company, an Aviation Support Company, and an attached Forward Support Company. This reorganization was part of the transformation of the 25th Infantry Division to the US Army's modular force structure.
