259th Quartermaster Battalion
After the Pueblo crisis of January 1968 and subsequent Tet Offensive, President Johnson yielded to the pressure of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and mobilized a small number of Army Reserve combat service support units. Among these was the 259th Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum), located in Pleasant Grove, Orem, and Provo, Utah. Mobilized in March 1968, the battalion trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and deployed to the I Corps region of South Vietnam. On its redeployment to the U.S. in September 1969, the 259th was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
On January 8, 2002 the Petersburg Support Office, part of Radian's Southeast Sector, announced the award of a sub-contract with Stanley Associates, in support in of the Inland Petroleum Distribution System (IPDS) pipeline training for the 259th Quartermaster Battalion, Denver, CO, under the Logistics Joint Administrative Management Support Services (LOGJAMSS) suite of contracts. The task award specifically addresses pipeline training for Quartermaster units tasked with the mission to command, control, and operate military pipelines. To gain insight and training on the IPDS, home station instruction is to be provided that will focus on the battalion's pipeline mission and familiarize the leadership and staff with IPDS operational requirements. Radian will provide the training courses and technical material to allow the staff of the 259th Quartermaster Battalion to become thoroughly familiar with IPDS pipeline operations. Instruction will include pipeline design/hydraulics, dispatching, batching and scheduling, pipe coupling, pipeline construction, pump station construction and operation, pipeline filling and testing, and Tactical Petroleum Terminal (TPT) emplacement and operations. This initial instruction will provide the foundation for the unit to gain the knowledge and experience to assist in executing IPDS technical tasks associated with the unit's upcoming deployment in support of POLEX West 2002.
