11th Transportation Company (HET)
The mission of the 11th Transportation Company (HET) is to provide professional and timely transportation support to V Corps for movement of oversized and overweight cargo. On order, deploy from central region base to provide heavy lift transportation support for all V Corps unit within U.S. Army Europe's area of responsibility.
The 11th Transportation Company (HET) is one of two Heavy Equipment Transport Companies assigned to 3d Corps Support Command and V Corps. The unit plays a critical role within Europe by providing overweight and outsized transportation support within the V Corps area of responsibility.
The 11th Transportation Company was constituted and activated in the U.S. Army as the 328th Harbor Craft Company, Transportation Corps in Charleston, South Carolina on 1 May 1943. It was redesignated as the 328th Transportation Corps Harbor Craft Company on 21 April 1945. It was inactivated in France on 12 November 1945. It was allotted to organized reserves and assigned to Third Army on 22 April 1947.
The 328th was again activated in Charleston, South Carolina on 3 May 1947. On 1 August 1947 it was inactivated in Charleston, South Carolina. It was withdrawn from the Organized Reserve Corps, allotted to the Regular Army, and redesignated as the 328th Transportation Service Company on 28 November 1951. On 20 August 1952 it was inactivated again.
On 3 July 1953, the unit grew wings as was redesignated as the 328th Transportation Company (Helicopter). On 15 July 1953, the unit was activated at Fort Riley, Kansas. On 18 May 1956, the unit was given its current name, the 11th Transportation Company (Helicopter). On 10 June 1966, it was inactivated in Europe.
On 16 April 1986, the unit debuted as the 11th Heavy Equipment Transportation Company at Panzer Kaserne, Stuttgart FRG. From December 1990 through 20 May 1991, the unit deployed to Saudi Arabia in allied cooperation of the liberation of Kuwait. On 21 June 1991, the 11th Transportation Company was reassigned to the 181st Transportation Battalion of 3rd COSCOM, V Corps.
In February 1992, 11th HET moved to Johnson Barracks, Furth, Germany. On 26 August 1994, 11th was reassigned to the 71st Corps Support Battalion. Effective 15 June 1995, the 11th was inactive once again.
On 16 August 1998, the unit was activated as the 11th Heavy Equipment Transportation Company in Mannheim, Germany, assigned to the 181st Transportation Battalion of 3rd COSCOM, V Corps.
In 1999, the unit deployed to Thessoloniki, Greece in support of Task Force Falcon Landing. From November to December 2000, the unit deployed to Macedonia and Kosovo as the RSO in support of the 1st Armored Division KFOR 2A/2B rotational change.
