1st Battalion, 89th Troop Command

The 1st Battalion of 89th Troop Command is a Headquarters dwhose mission is to support the 5 separate units in their control.

Located at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, this unit is the higher headquarters for Military Police, Signal, Public Affairs and the Army Band.

The immediate higher headquarters for 1st Battalion is 89th Troop Command.

The battalion's 220th Military Police Company is a corps level MP asset. Its wartime mission is to provide military police combat support to an assigned area of operations. This mission includes the areas of enemy prisoner of war escort, civil disturbance support, battlefield circulation control, area security, law enforcement operations, and convoy escort. The company headquarters is located at the new Denver/Globeville armory just north of downtown Denver. A detachment of the company is located in Monte Vista, CO. The unit has performed missions in many different countries including Panama, Japan, Hungary (for six months on a peacekeeping mission) and Saudi Arabia, as well as supported local law enforcement authorities throughout the state during state and local emergencies.

The 140th Signal Company is divided into the parent company in Denver, CO located at the new Denver/Globeville armory and Detachment 1 in Sterling, Colorado. The 143rd Signal Company is located in Grand Junction, CO. The mission of the 140th is to provide tactical field switching for corps command or above in a tactical theater operation. This command operations signal company works in the echelon-above-corps (EAC) theater and deploys their Tri-tact equipment of 39D Switchboards to link with microwave communications equipment. The 143rd Signal Company consists of soldiers who establish long distance communications (up to 150 miles). The 143rd is a Heavy-Tropo Satellite unit using state of the art Army equipment to establish commo in tactical environments.

The 1/128th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment is a small unit of Photojournalists and consists of photographers, videographers and journalists. The mission of the MPAD is to provide public affairs support to the theater command. The MPAD may be employed in a stand-alone role, supporting a Press Camp Headquarters, or supporting a command public affairs office. Typical duties include news production or release activities, media relations activities and/or operating command information programs. They produce newspapers, newsletters, daily news sheets, photographs, and broadcast-quality audio and video products. Colorado's 1/128th MPAD is stationed at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, CO, and is a detachment from the parent unit in Utah.
