1st Battalion (Training Support) (Engineer), 395th Regiment
"Viper Battalion"
The 1st Battalion (Training Support) (Engineer), 395th Regiment trained, assisted, and evaluated, Combat Engineer Reserve Component units within the Area of Responsibility. As directed, tehe Battalion also provided mobilization assistance to train and validate for deployment alerted engineer units at home station or assigned Power Projection Platforms. Upon notification, the Battalion could provide a Defense Coordinating Element to provide Military Support to Civilian Authorities during Federally declared disasters in Texas and New Mexico.
The 1st Battalion, 395th Regiment was activated on 3 May 1996 as the 1st Engineer Training Battalion, 3rd Regional Training Brigade, Fifth United States Army. It was then inactivated and reactivated on 3 October 1997 as the 9th Training Support Battalion (Engineer), 3rd Regional Training Brigade, Fifth United States Army. On 27 October 1997, the Battalion became part of the 120th Infantry Brigade, Fifth United States Army.
As part of the Army's "Intergrated Division" initative, the Battalion was inactivated and then reactivated as the 1st Battalion (Training Support) (Engineer), 395th Regiment and was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 75th Division (Training Support). With the decision in the mid-2000s to again restructure training support units, the 1st Battalion, 395th Regiment was reassigned back to the 479th Field Artillery Brigade (Training Support).
