1st Battalion - 296th Infantry Regiment (Aaslt)

With the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950, the 65th was ordered to Korea and assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division. While the 65th was on its way, its sister Puerto Rico Guard unit, the 296th Infantry, was mobilized. Like many Guard units, the 296th was tasked to provide replacements. Most Puerto Rico Guardmembers were assigned to the 65th.
