In December 1959, a new type of the Armed Forces was created - the Strategic Missile Forces (Strategic Missile Forces). On June 11, 1961, on the basis of the famous artillery division in Novosibirsk, the Guards Glukhovskaya Order of Lenin was formed, the Red Banner Orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov and Bogdan Khmelnitsky missile division. For the successes achieved in maintaining combat readiness based on the results of 1984, the division was awarded the pennant of the USSR Minister of Defense "For courage and military valor displayed in the performance of assignments of the Soviet government." More than 5 thousand servicemen of the division were awarded government awards.

In various years, the missile division was armed with R-16 missiles (from 1963 to 1979), RSD-10 (from 1977 to 1989), RT-2PM (from 1989). At present, the personnel of the Novosibirsk missile formation are on alert at the Topol missile systems. In 2012, in the Novosibirsk missile formation, commanded by Guard Colonel Alexander Stenkin, preparatory work began to re-equip with the latest mobile ground missile system Yars, equipped with an RS-24 ICBM with a multiple warhead.

On the eve of the Soviet offensive near Stalingrad, the 1st artillery division of the Reserve of the Supreme High Command (RVGK) was formed by order of the People's Commissar of Defense dated November 5, 1942 to strengthen the front strike group. The division headquarters, formed in the city of Kolomna, united under its command the artillery regiments of the RVGK, which arrived from the active forces of the Don and Southwestern Fronts.

On November 9, 1942, the division took up a battle formation in the sector of the 21st Army in the Kletskaya-Serafimovichi region. Acting as part of the 21st, 65th, 57th armies, the division participated in the encirclement of the enemy's Stalingrad grouping, in repelling the tank attacks of Manstein's army, and in January 1943 - in the final defeat of the encircled German grouping.

After the end of hostilities at Stalingrad, the division was transferred to the Central Front. On February 16, 1943, the division concentrated at Yelets station and became operational under the 70th Army.

Servicemen live in service apartments, hostels and a hotel. The material and living conditions of service at the sites are somewhat different: at the close ones, i.e. in the training unit (there they are until the oath), as well as in the 6th, 12th and 22nd there is hot water, and the soldiers live in standard barracks. On the distant ones - the 13th and 22nd there are interruptions with hot water and periodically the chip does not work. Nevertheless, it is warm in the barracks, and the soldiers are provided with warm outer clothing.

Civilian personnel work in the canteen (on the ground floor of each of the barracks), Uralsibbank ATM (soldiers receive allowance on VTB-24 cards) is available only on site 10. Employees of all divisions are brought there, accompanied by officers, so that they can withdraw money. This happens on a different day for each site.

Cultural and leisure provision is organized on the basis of the garrison house of culture, where there are many circles, a library, a museum and other facilities. Consumer services for servicemen and their families are provided by the consumer services combine and enterprises located in the garrison (ateliers, photo studio, post office, bathhouse, hotels, a network of hairdressers and beauty salons, a network of commercial stores). Internet access is provided by two providers. Beeline, MTS, Megafon mobile networks are available.

Medical care for servicemen is organized on the basis of a military hospital, and for their family members - in the city polyclinic and hospital. There are 2 preschool institutions and a secondary school in the garrison. Established a stable transport connection with the city of Novosibirsk. To resolve the issue of employment in the garrison, the work of an employment center has been organized. There is also the possibility of individual employment at the enterprises of Novosibirsk (Elektropribor, dairy, bakery and others), as well as in commercial enterprises and organizations.

In addition to the supply of weapons and military equipment, the formation is actively working on the construction of administrative and economic infrastructure. These facilities include new soldiers 'and officers' canteens, cockpit-type barracks, headquarters of missile regiments, training buildings, and technical structures intended for servicing the units.

In the period from 12 to 17 March 2012, in order to check the organization and conduct of combat training in the winter period of training in the military units of the Novosibirsk missile formation, a complex group of the Strategic Missile Forces command is working under the leadership of the Deputy Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Lieutenant General Valery Mazurov.

The officers of the Strategic Missile Forces command will check the level of training of personnel in the subjects of combat training, the progress of the combat training programs in the 2012 academic year, the participation of officials of the division's command and control bodies (units and subunits) in the organization and conduct of combat training events, the quality and efficiency of the work of the command of the Omsk missile formation to assist the division command in solving the tasks set for the 2012 academic year, fulfill the requirements of the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces for managing the daily activities of military units and subunits by commanders and chiefs, as well as provide practical assistance to the command of military units and subunits in managing planned daily activities.

The RS-24 ICBM with a multiple warhead was developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering under the leadership of the General Designer, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Semenovich Solomonov. This rocket was created using scientific, technical and technological solutions implemented in the Topol-M missile system, which significantly reduced the time and cost of its creation.

The adoption of the RS-24 ICBM enhances the combat capabilities of the Strategic Missile Forces strike group to overcome anti-missile defense systems, thereby strengthening the potential for nuclear deterrence of the Russian strategic nuclear forces (SNF). Mobile complexes Topol-M and Yars have no analogues in the world. Compared to its predecessor, the Topol missile system, the new complexes have significantly improved combat and operational capabilities. This was achieved by adapting combat equipment to the conditions of missile defense, improving the characteristics of mobility and stealth from technical reconnaissance means.

In addition, in the Irkutsk, Novosibirsk and Kozelsk (Kaluga region) missile formations, preparatory measures are underway to ensure the rearmament of missile regiments to the Yars missile system. Moreover, in the last of the named connections, the deployment of the RK "Yars" will be carried out in a silo version.
