Base de Avord
BA702 Base Aérienne 702
The 50 Mirage IV-A ordered in March 1959 were all finally delivered between 1964 and 1966. They were dispersed on nine air bases, organized into three mixed squadrons of bombardment, composed each of three squadrons of bombardment and a squadron for in-flight refueling under the Strategic Air Command. On 01 December 1965, the l'Escadron de bombardement [bombardment squadron] EB 1/94 Bourbonnais was formed at Avord AB, close to Bourges.
The Escadron de Détection et de Contrôle Aéroporté [36°EDA], equipped with the Boeing E-3F Sentry, was formed at Avord in January 1990.
The school of the aviation of transport is stationed at Avord. It was formed in 1965 as the Group School 319 (GE 319), specialized in the training of the pilots of transport of the Air Force. The instruction for pilots, which allows them to reach the same stage of progression as the pilots at the the School of the fighter force at Tours, includes three complementary phases. After this training, the trainees who satisfy all the tests receive the pilot's licence of military transport of the second degree. They then join the units of the Air Force of Projection (FAP) of instruction of the crews of transport (CIET) at Toulouse to continue their operational progression there.
