The physics package of the B61 nuclear bomb is also used in the W80 ALCM warhead, W81 for the cancelled nuclear Standard SM-2 SAM, W84 GLCM warhead, and W85 Pershing II missile.

In 1985 Rep Edward J. Markey, offered an amendment to prohibit use of funds in the bill to be used for research, development, testing, evaluation, or procurement associated with a nuclear variant of the Standard Missile 2(N) (SM-2(N)), the W81 warhead for the Standard Missile 2(N), or any other nuclear warhead for the Standard Missile 2(N). It required a report by 2/15/86 on the circumstances for use of these missiles and the likely enemy response among other matters.
