L.1 PUBLIC INFORMATION
The overall goal of the community relations program is to foster understanding of the EIS/EIR process and to provide opportunities for public participation. The following specific objectives support this goal:
- Provide information to the public on the EIS/EIR process.
- Describe the process: its purpose, opportunities for public involvement, and the documents being prepared.
- Explain the role of knowledgeable federal, state, and local agencies in reviewing regulatory compliance, resource protection, and other environmental issues related to the project.
- Provide a frame of reference to assist the public in evaluating technical issues associated with the EIS/EIR, such as accident analysis and operational safety related to LLNL and SNL, Livermore.
- Provide opportunities for public involvement throughout the process.
- Encourage public review.
- Listen to community concerns.
- Provide opportunities for two-way communication between the EIS/EIR project staff and the community.
