The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an enemy agent in Dnipro. He prepared coordinates for a new series of russian air strikes on the regional center.
The traitor's main task was to find and transmit the locations of volunteer foundations and rehabilitation centers where wounded Defense Forces soldiers are recovering.
The investigation established that russia's task was carried out by a local resident recruited by the FSB, who had previously served time for robbery, theft, and grievous bodily harm.
The individual came to the enemy's attention even before the start of the full-scale war, when he was in a penal colony in the temporarily occupied Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region.
In February 2023, russian federal security service remotely approached him and offered cooperation.
By that time, the repeat offender had already been released and returned to Dnipro.
After recruitment, the agent began to drive around the area in his car, using his phone camera to record buildings near which he noticed Ukrainian military personnel and volunteers.
He sent the intelligence to his handler via a messenger app in the form of marks on Google Maps with descriptions of the objects he spotted.
Next, the asset was supposed to leave GPS trackers near the specified locations to guide russian missiles and drones at them.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the enemy accomplice and took action to protect Ukrainian defenders in the area.
The agent's computer equipment, GPS beacons, and smartphones with various SIM cards for covert contacts with the FSB were seized during searches.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The special operation was carried out by the SSU Offices in Chernivtsi and Dnipropetrovsk regions under the procedural supervision of Chernivtsi Region Prosecutor's Office.
