The SSU Counterintelligence prevented a series of terrorist attacks in Odesa. As a result of a special operation, an enemy agent who manufactured improvised explosive devices for explosions in the port city has been detained.
As the investigation established, he placed the finished explosives in caches on the coast and sent their coordinates to the FSB.
The occupiers then sent the geolocations to the direct perpetrators of the terrorist attacks, who took the bombs from the hiding places.
The SSU detained one of these terrorists in July this year when she attempted to blow up the regional Territorial Recruitment Center in Odesa.
The agent currently in custody, who manufactured the explosive devices, is a 60-year-old Odesa resident. Previously, he had been a sailor on a merchant ship and, upon retirement, began working for russia's federal security service.
The individual was recruited while he was staying with his sister in russia at the start of the full-scale war. On the FSB's orders, the man later returned to Odessa via third countries.
Upon arrival in Ukraine, the agent first carried out test tasks for his handler, reporting to him on the consequences of russian strikes on the city.
Then the traitor instructed an accomplice on how to make IEDs and priority locations for caches for the bombs.
The perpetrator added metal nuts and bolts to the IEDs and equipped them with mobile phones for remote detonation.
The Security Service documented the agent's crimes and detained him at his home. A smartphone, which he used to contact the FSB, was seized from him.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 15.3, 258.2 of the CCU (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operational and investigative actions were carried out by the SSU Odesa Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
