Russian air defense forces have shot down a Ukrainian drone targeting the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP).
The Russian forces shot down the Ukrainian drone near the plant. The downed drone damaged an auxiliary transformer, the press service of the KNPP said on Sunday.
"On August 24 at 0:26 Moscow time [21:26 GMT Saturday], near the Kursk NPP, an air defense shot down a combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Ukrainian armed forces. When it fell, the device detonated, as a result of which the auxiliary transformer was damaged," the KNPP said on Telegram.
"Currently, the third power unit is in operation at the Kursk NPP. The fourth power unit is undergoing scheduled maintenance. The first and second power units are in operation without generation," it added.
The downed Ukrainian drone also caused fire at the plant, resulting in a power capacity reduction.
As a result of the attack, unit three of the plant was reduced to 50 percent capacity.
However, there was no leakage of radiation, and there were no injuries at the nuclear facility.
Last week, Ukrainian forces launched an attack on a Russian pipeline transferring oil to central Europe.
