On August 21, the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Lithuania was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and presented with a protest note regarding the latest missile and combat drone strikes against Ukraine.

The note states: the continued terror against Ukraine by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, at a time when Europe and the United States are making immense efforts to end the war and agree on a lasting peace, clearly demonstrates that the Russian Federation is not willing to renounce its aggressive goals towards Ukraine or to seek peace, and that its participation in the negotiations is hypocritical and aimed solely at gaining time to continue seizing parts of Ukraine's territory and avoid new Western sanctions.

On the night of August 20 to 21, Russia launched 574 drones and 40 missiles into Ukraine, targeting residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine, injuring dozens of civilians.
