The President welcomes the United States' commitment to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda participated in a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing. The discussion centered on yesterday's meeting in Washington between the Presidents of the United States and Ukraine, which was also joined by leaders of major European countries, the NATO Secretary General, and the President of the European Commission.
During the meeting, participants expressed gratitude to the European leaders who took part in the Washington meeting and emphasized Europe's role in halting Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
President Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the United States' commitment to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine, stressing that these guarantees must be urgently turned into practical and military measures.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, the Coalition of the Willing needs be prepared to deploy forces the next day after a peace agreement is signed.
The President also emphasized that there is no alternative to deterring Russia from future aggression other than strong, well-trained, and adequately sized Ukrainian armed forces defending their homeland.
The Head of State further underlined that pressure on Russia has to continue and that the European Union should proceed swiftly with its 19th sanctions package against Russia. The Kremlin has done nothing to deserve any easing of sanctions and has taken no steps towards achieving a just and lasting peace.
