The SSU Military Counterintelligence has neutralized an agent network of russia's federal security service that was adjusting enemy air strikes on defense infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Odesa region, four members of the cell were detained along with the group's resident (head agent).

They provided the FSB with the coordinates of Ukrainian weapons, ammunition and equipment depots and sought to geolocate Ukrainian air defense units in order to adjust russian attacks to evade Ukrainian air defenses.

The investigation established that the head of the group was a security guard at a local martial arts school. To recruit the man remotely, the occupiers used his acquaintance from Crimea, who cooperates with russian special services and is close to former member of parliament from the party of regions Igor Markov.

Following the FSB instructions, the agent formed his own group of informants, which included his friends: a sports coach, a taxi driver and his wife, a saleswoman at a local shop.

To carry out the enemy tasks, they spied on the movement of military and civilian cargo vehicles in the direction of possible logistics centers of the Defense Forces.

The traitors also gathered intelligence from local residents in casual conversations, including visitors to the sports school, taxi customers and shop customers.

The assets passed the collected data to the head of the group during personal meetings or by telephone, using code words for secrecy.

The SSU identified the perpetrators at the beginning of their criminal activities, documented their actions and detained them all.

The detainees have been notified of suspicion under several Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 111.2 (high treason, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
  • 114-2.2 (dissemination of information about the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

The suspects are in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
