The Security Service of Ukraine is neutralizing enemy sabotage activities at early stages and exposing russian agent networks. The Service is successfully counteracting to the russian plan called Sabotage Noise, which was personally approved by putin at the end of 2023. This enemy plan involves sabotage and terrorist attacks throughout Ukraine. This was stated by the Head of the SSU, Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk, during an interview with We Are Ukraine (My - Ukraina) TV channel during the Unified News telethon.
'It all started with the arson of ordinary cars, then they started using improvised explosive devices. However, we are very effective in preventing this. Almost 80% of all such criminal acts are uncovered preemptively, we avert them. The institution of double agents plays a very important role here. The enemy firmly believes that there is a source, but in reality, these are our patriotic citizens. We have created an intelligence network covering every region. This allows us to control the situation and detain enemy accomplices timely,' emphasized Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk.
He also added that since the start of the full-scale invasion, the SSU Counterintelligence has dismantled 118 russian agent networks.
'Among them are those who collected information about Ukraine's Defense Forces, prepared attacks, and even those who prepared an assassination attempt on the President. These are intelligence networks of various calibers, but each of them is an organized form of criminal activity against the foundations of national security. So far, SSU investigators have notified over 3 500 individuals of suspicion of high treason, and we have more than 1 000 convictions. On average, the court sentences them to 12-13 years, but there are also life sentences,' informed the Head of the Security Service.
According to Vasyl Maliuk, the fight against enemy agent networks is under the personal control of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. A separate important area for the SSU is self-cleansing from russian influence. The Head of State personally oversaw the investigation of cases involving Koziura and Kulinich.
'Koziura is really a top 'rat'. We were documenting him for a long time, and in the process there were 14 episodes of him passing disinformation to the enemy. That is, we deliberately gave him information, which he passed on to the other side. And the FSB applauded: they thought they had obtained top-level information. In reality, we were misleading them. At a certain stage, everything came to its logical conclusion and the decision was made to detain him. As for Kulinich, he is also in custody. Our Counterintelligence and Investigation units are working effectively, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for that,' the SSU Chairman remarked.
Vasyl Maliuk said that the Security Service continues to actively cooperate with its Western colleagues, thanks to which it is possible to neutralize russian information and psychological operations. Together with international partners, the SSU dismantled the organization Voice of Europe, which was created by Viktor Medvedchuk and former CEO of Channel 112 Artem Marchevsky, and, as part of international cooperation, detained and transferred propagandist Kyryl Molchanov to Ukraine.
'First of all, I would like to thank the Counterintelligence units of the Czech Republic, with whom we, our National Statehood Protection Department and our investigators, were able to document this organization. As a result, sanctions were imposed on these individuals, and the entire operation was shut down. As for Molchanov, it was an interesting counterintelligence and operational combination. He traveled to Europe from russia, carrying out tasks for the FSB's fifth service, and was supposed to organize certain anti-Ukrainian rallies there. We worked with our Polish colleagues to put together a totally legit plan, and he was charged right at the border crossing on Ukrainian territory,' said the Head of the SSU.
He also noted that over the past year russia spent USD 4.6 billion on information war against Ukraine. In addition, russia has 19 institutions working to influence Ukrainian citizens through information.
'Therefore, given the current situation, we must turn the country into a 'steel porcupine'. Our war is a war between the Good and the Evil. The Good always wins, and we understand this. We are the Good in this situation. That is why we are working and doing our job,' Vasyl Maliuk concluded.
