Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "The first day of my visit to Japan ended on a high note - with a warm and substantive meeting with my counterpart and steadfast friend of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.
We discussed the situation on the battlefield, current diplomatic efforts for a just peace, sanctions policy, cooperation within the UN and common security challenges for our countries. Consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine are directly felt in the Asia-Pacific region as well.
Minister Iwaya responded with deep empathy to the recent Russian attack on Kyiv and the tragic civilian losses.
A key focus was accountability for the crime of aggression. I thanked Japan for its role in the Special Tribunal Core Group, the Register of Damages, and the Compensation Mechanism.
I also expressed heartfelt gratitude for Japan's generous financial, humanitarian, and reconstruction support. Ahead lies a major milestone - Japan hosting the Ukraine Mine Action Conference, a crucial step for rebuilding a safe Ukraine.
We continue working together for our common goal - a just, lasting and comprehensive peace."
