The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented new terrorist attacks in southern Ukraine. As a result of a special operation, two FSB agents who were preparing twin explosions in Mykolaiv have been detained.
The investigation has established that the enemy's plan was to first detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near an administrative building of the regional Territorial Recruitment Center. Later, when the emergency services arrived at the scene, another explosive device planted nearby was to detonate.
In this way, the ruscists planned to kill as many people as possible, aiming to undermine the internal situation in the frontline region.
According to the investigation, the terrorist attack was prepared by two FSB agents who acted separately from each other but had one handler.
One of the suspects is a 38-year-old resident of Kirovohrad region, who came to the attention of the occupiers when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.
After recruitment, his task was to equip caches with IEDs.
Then the russian handler passed the geolocation of the caches to the executor of the planned terrorist attack, an 18-year-old resident of Kyiv region, who was recruited by the FSB while searching for 'easy money' on Telegram channels.
Following the instructions, the young agent took two IEDs from caches in Kherson and Mykolaiv. He hid one of them in a garbage bin near the Mykolaiv Territorial Recruitment Center, and planted the other one nearby.
At that moment, SSU officers detained him red-handed and thus thwarted the enemy's plans.
At the scene, the suspect was seized of phone, which he tried to install near the Territorial Recruitment Center to stream the terrorist attack to the occupiers online.
SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Articles 15.2, 258.2 of the CCU (completed attempted terrorist act).
The other agent was detained at home. He is charged under Article 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law).
The offenders are in custody without the right to be released on bail. They face from 12 years in prison to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions under the procedural supervision of Kherson Specialized Prosecutor's Office and Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor's Office for the Southern Region.
