Republic of Lithuania - Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Updated 2025-07-17
On 16 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned the chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania who was handed a note of protest regarding the shelling of Ukraine, which affects not only civilians and infrastructure, but also diplomatic missions. Last week, Russian strikes damaged the Holy See's nunciature in Kyiv.
Following the proposal of a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire of at least 30 days by the U.S. and Ukraine on 11 March 2025, Russia has launched more than 17,000 drones and at least 600 various types of missiles into Ukrainian territory. According to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine there were 232 confirmed civilian victims of Russian aggression and 1,343 wounded in June of this year alone, which is the highest monthly toll of victims since April 2022.
Lithuania, together with its allies, will continue to ensure that Ukraine has all the necessary means to defend itself against Russian aggression and will persist in demanding that Russia immediately cease its aggression, halt all military actions, withdraw all armed forces from the entire territory of Ukraine and compensate Ukraine for all damages caused by its military aggression, and those responsible are brought to justice.
