Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another ruscist has been convicted in absentia to 12 years in prison for war crimes during the occupation of part of Chernihiv region.
The perpetrator is a 37-year-old captain Semen Solovov (call sign 'Klen') - commander of a combined detachment of the 228th motorized rifle regiment of the russian armed forces (military unit 22316).
According to the investigation, his unit took part in the capture of the village of Yagidne in March 2022.
While in the village, Solovov ordered his subordinates to herd civilian residents into the basement of the village school, where the occupiers had set up their staff.
In this way, the ruscists held 369 local residents hostage for almost a month, including 69 minors.
These people were locked in a 197 m² basement without light, ventilation, sufficient water or food.
In this way, the occupiers used the victims as a 'human shield' for the russian command post.
Due to the absence of timely medical assistance, 10 elderly people died in the dungeon.
The russian servicemen forbade the removal of the dead from the basement, where they remained in the room with the living for a long time.
Solovov also repeatedly threatened the victims with blowing them all up.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found Solovov guilty under Articles 28.2 and 438.1 of the CCU (war crimes committed by a group upon prior conspiracy).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Chernihiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
