Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna: The West Stands Firmly with Ukraine

I welcome U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to send military aid to Ukraine. It is crucial that this urgently needed assistance reaches Ukraine quickly and is coordinated through NATO. Ukraine's most pressing need is effective and comprehensive air defense, as Russia has shown no interest in achieving peace and continues to carry out increasingly brutal attacks against Ukrainian civilians, cities, and infrastructure. In July alone, Russia has attacked Ukrainian cities and residents with approximately 2,000 drones and missiles.

Transatlantic cooperation is key to supporting Ukraine, as it unites the efforts of the U.S. and Europe into a powerful response to Russian aggression. This is a clear sign that the West continues to stand firmly with Ukraine.

To stop the aggressor and support Ukraine, all possible tools must be used in addition to military aid. The European Union must adopt the 18th sanctions package, which includes the lowering of the oil price cap demanded by Estonia. As President Trump noted, the U.S. will also impose tougher tariffs on Russia if it refuses a ceasefire.

Furthermore, around €260 billion worth of frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank are held in the EU and G7 countries. Active negotiations are underway to implement the political will to confiscate these assets. They must be used to assist Ukraine until Russia ends its aggression and compensates Ukraine for the damage caused.
