The SSU Military Counterintelligence prevented a series of russian sabotage attacks in Kharkiv. As a result of pre-emptive measures, an FSB agent who was preparing to blow up key power substations supplying the city was detained.

The investigation established that the perpetrator was a children's entertainer from Kharkiv, who had been recruited by the russian special service. He came to the enemy's attention through an acquaintance living in russia.

After remote recruitment, the agent received a task from his handler: to blow up a power substation that supplies electricity to one of the districts of the front-line city.

To do this, the man received instructions from russia's federal security service on how to make an improvised explosive device at home.

The SSU detained the agent while he was making explosives in his home.

While documenting his crimes, the SSU also established that he had recorded the locations of the Defense Forces on his way to children's parties.

This was a 'test' task for the agent, who was being tested by his handler for readiness to carry out more complex assignments.

If the first power substation had been successfully blown up, the agent was to carry out similar acts of sabotage at other energy facilities in the city.

Components for an improvised explosive device, pro-kremlin symbols, including a Ukrainian passport in a russian tricolour cover, as well as a tablet and a phone with evidence of working for russia were seized during the searches of the suspect's home and car.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The enemy accomplice is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Th operation was carried out jointly with SSU investigators from the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
