The SSU Counterintelligence and the National Police have detained perpetrators of a terrorist attack against a Ukrainian soldier in Kharkiv on June 14 this year.
On that day, agents of russian special services attempted to blow up a Ukrainian military serviceman using an improvised explosive device.
The explosion occurred near the entrance to a five-story building, where the enemy lured the man under the pretext of a meeting with a supposed female acquaintance. As a result of the IED detonation, the victim suffered multiple shrapnel wounds, but his condition is currently stable.
The investigation established that the occupiers remotely recruited two local unemployed men to prepare the terrorist attack, one of whom is a repeat offender with a criminal record for theft.
Both came to the aggressor's attention while looking for easy money on Telegram.
Following russia's orders, the agents made the bomb, adding nuts and bolts for bigger damage and a phone for remote detonation.
They hid the finished IED at the site of the planned attack and disguised a phone camera with remote access for the occupiers under a trash can.
Using the device, russian special services tracked the arrival of the serviceman at the location and remotely activated the explosives.
The law enforcement identified the terrorists and apprehended them at their homes as they attempted to destroy all evidence of the crime.
Both detained individuals have been notified of suspicion of crimes under three Articles of the CCU:
- 258.2 (terrorist act, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 263-1.2 (illegal manufacture of an explosive device);
- 263.1 (illegal storage and carrying of an explosive device without the permission required by law).
The suspects are in custody without bail and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Saltivskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv.
