Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, three agents of russian military intelligence ('the GRU') who blew up a car with a Ukrainian serviceman have been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The crime was committed in the summer of 2024. The victim was seriously injured in the explosion.
The SSU Counterintelligence identified four perpetrators and detained them while they were preparing a new terrorist attack on behalf of the aggressor state.
Three terrorists have been sentenced to prison terms. They were recruited by the occupiers: a Kharkiv software engineer, a former military man and a local unemployed individual. The fourth agent is still on trial.
To carry out the terrorist attack, the agents tracked down the parking place of a Ukrainian defender's car in Kharkiv and planted an improvised explosive device under it.
After the attack, the perpetrators prepared another explosive device and tried to hide it in a pre-arranged cache. However, the SSU detained them and prevented the crime.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the panel of judges found the three accused guilty of crimes under the Articles of the CCU:
- 28.2, 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law, by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 258.2 (terrorist act, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 263.1 (acquisition, carrying, storage and transfer of explosive substances and explosive devices without the permission required by law);
- 263-1.1 (illegal manufacture of explosive substances and explosive devices);
- 436-2.1, 436-2.3 (justification of russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, committed repeatedly).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
