Foreign Minister Tsahkna in Munich: Europe must ensure Ukraine the chance to make its own decisions on peace

Attending the Munich Security Conference from 14 to 16 February, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that if Ukraine decided to keep fighting, Europe must be ready to continue supporting Ukraine.
"Europe must ensure that Ukraine has the chance to decide for itself on which conditions peace is achieved, and continue its extensive support for Ukraine. Europe has enough resources and nearly €300 billion worth of frozen Russian assets that must be mobilised," Tsahkna said.
He added that Europe was working on new initiatives for supporting Ukraine and these were discussed today at the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, called by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas in Munich.
"In our vision, lasting peace can only arrive in Ukraine and Europe once Russia gives up its objectives. Until this happens, peace would only allow Russia to recover and continue pursuing its aims after a while," Tsahkna said. "If Ukraine decides that it does not want to agree to a peace deal that could be forced on it by going over its head, Europe is ready to continue supporting Ukraine in its efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace."
Tsahkna said Estonia would continue on its course and we still believe that the winning strategy is based on providing military support to Ukraine and pressuring Russia to change its course.
"We are at a critical moment when Europe must show resolve and boldness of action," the foreign minister said. "No one else will come to advocate for our security interests, we must do that ourselves."
