On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda spoke by telephone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

President Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Ukraine's independence, territorial integrity, and the right to determine its own future have to be guaranteed. According to the Lithuanian leader, any possible peace talks have to be strictly based on the 'nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine' principle.

Speaking on possible negotiations, Gitanas Nausėda stressed that the ultimate goal should not be merely a temporary ceasefire, but a sustainable and lasting peace. "Talks should aim not just to end the war, but to end aggression. We cannot allow Russia to rebuild its military capabilities and once again pose a threat to the entire Western world," the Lithuanian President stated.

The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine, alongside Europe, must enter negotiations from a position of strength. During the conversation, the Lithuanian leader reaffirmed that NATO membership is the strongest and most practical guarantee of Ukraine's security.

The Lithuanian and Ukrainian leaders also discussed the Munich Security Conference, which starts tomorrow. "Europe needs to take very quick and very serious decisions on its military presence in Ukraine," President Gitanas Nausėda said.
