This Friday Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė has joined other members of the Government on a visit to Kyiv. Minister took part in the intergovernmental consultations at the Government of Ukraine and met with Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov to discuss assistance to Ukraine and implementation of Ukraine's Victory Plan.
Minister D. Šakalienė emphasized that Ukraine needed assistance more than ever and that peace was not possible without strength.
"Freezing the conflict would be just an illusion of peace. The only long-term security guarantee that is realistic is a positive solution to Ukraine's need of NATO membership. We will support Ukraine with weapons, finance and in the political field," said Minister D. Šakalienė in an address to the Government of Ukraine.
Earlier this week Lithuania has transferred EUR 10 million to support Ukraine's defence industry through strengthening Ukraine's long-range capability.
The Demining Capability Coalition led by Lithuania and Iceland has scurried EUR 46 million already so that it is able to full equip seven Ukraine's mine countermeasures battalions next year.
Since the start of the war Lithuania has rendered over EUR 736 million worth of military assistance to Ukraine, while the long-term assistance in general has already exceeded a billion and a half.
