On Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, to discuss the implementation of the Victory Plan, the recent decisions by the European Council, and the process of Ukraine's integration into the European Union.
In his meeting with Ruslan Stefanchuk, President Gitanas Nausėda expressed Lithuania's support for the Victory Plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the Lithuanian leader, the plan outlines key elements essential for Ukraine's victory: an invitation to join NATO, the right to defend itself beyond its borders, and increased military support.
"The plan for Ukraine's victory presented by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a homework not done by the West. We need to stop hesitating and take urgent action for Ukraine's victory. Ukraine's membership in NATO is the only guarantee of lasting peace. Only Ukraine's NATO membership can provide true security," the Head of State underlined.
The President also emphasized that Ukraine's right to self-defense should not be limited to its own borders. According to Gitanas Nausėda, lifting restrictions on Ukraine's ability to target Russian military airports, ammunition depots, and supply lines would accelerate Ukraine's victory and stop the war initiated by Russia.
In addition, the Lithuanian leader and the Chairman of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada discussed Ukraine's integration into the European Union and the ongoing reforms in the country. President Nausėda pointed out that Ukraine has made significant progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations and reforms, despite the challenges of war. He reaffirmed Lithuania's support for Ukraine's swift accession to the EU, noting that this is crucial not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe. The President also assured that, regardless of political changes, Lithuania will continue to steadfastly and consistently support Ukraine.
