In Switzerland, President Gitanas Nausėda is participating in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine. In his address at the plenary session, the Head of State underlined that we are at a very important point in history—we need to make a determined effort to achieve a sustainable and lasting peace in Europe with Ukraine's victory.
"Today, Ukraine is defending its freedom and independence as well as the entire rules-based international order. Our collective obligation is to stand in full solidarity with Ukraine in achieving this goal," the President stressed during the plenary session.
The Head of State reaffirmed Lithuania's full support for the principles of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula. Peace in Ukraine can only be achieved through the full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, the President stressed. For this to happen, Russia must cease its aggression immediately and withdraw all its forces and military equipment from Ukrainian territory.
According to the Head of State, any calls for Ukraine to surrender, to compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, or to accept Russia's ultimatums, are only appeasing Russia and inviting it to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine. According to the President, it is difficult to call this support for the aggressor as "alternative plans for peace."
Gitanas Nausėda also said that the international community should ensure that all the damage caused by Russia's aggression is compensated. "We have to use not only the proceeds but also all the frozen assets for this purpose," the Lithuanian leader underlined.
"We can all agree that there will be no lasting and sustainable peace without ensuring justice. Those responsible for war crimes as well as the crime of aggression, which constitutes a gross breach of the UN Charter, should be brought to account. To ensure this, we are seeking to establish a Special International Tribunal and I call on all the participants of this Sumit to join it," Gitanas Nausėda spoke at the Summit.
