On May 29, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a roundtable discussion on issues of the Ukraine crisis, organised by the Diplomatic Academy, with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The event brought together over 70 foreign ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions, accredited in Moscow.
In his remarks, Sergey Lavrov discussed destabilising actions of the United States and the European Union in great detail. These actions are aimed at facilitating their eastward geopolitical and geo-economic expansion for the sake of spreading and consolidating their domination. The Minister explained that the West unleashed the hybrid war against Russia because of its independent foreign policy line that advocates the establishment of a more equitable international order in accordance with the UN Charter's principles, in their entirety and interdependence.
The Minister provided examples highlighting the determined efforts of our adversaries to unleash an armed conflict in Ukraine, to foment anti-Russia and neo-Nazi moods there, to encourage the Russophobic line of the Kiev regime and to turn the latter into an obedient tool for fighting Russia, including "on the battlefield."
Sergey Lavrov also noted that the confrontation had acquired a global dimension because the West is involving countries of the Global Majority in this process trying to limit their interaction with Russia. The Minister urged those present not to yield to US pressure and that of its satellites and to decline an invitation to take part in a "peace summit" in Switzerland on June 15-16. He underscored the fact that, instead of searching for specific opportunities (as officially stated) to resolve the conflict around Ukraine, the upcoming event aims to draft an unacceptable ultimatum and deliver it to Russia.
The roundtable discussion participants cited convincing facts and statistics proving that claims that Russia is destabilising the situation on the global food market are groundless. They noted that Western countries alone were creating obstacles and problems in this sphere.
The roundtable discussion participants had an interested and thorough exchange of opinions on issues of the Ukraine crisis and other topical issues of the international agenda.
