On Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda remotely addressed the International Platform for the Release of Civilians Arbitrarily Detained by the Russian Federation, calling for mobilizing international efforts to help Ukraine.

The Head of State stressed that Russia's military aggression against Ukraine has been continuing for 10 years and its full-scale invasion for two years. One of the features of the brutal Russian occupation regime in Ukraine is the risk for all civilians of arbitrary detention, torture, and death at the hands of the Russian forces.

"No Ukrainians today, not even children, are safe under the Russian occupation," the President said, referring to the illegal deportation of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia and Belarus as "particularly shocking example of the genocidal attempt to erase Ukrainian identity."

Gitanas Nausėda expressed Lithuania's strong support for the International Platform for the Release of Civilians Arbitrarily Detained by the Russian Federation within the Framework of the Peace Formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the President, Lithuania will continue to call for the need to establish a special international tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression and to set up a mechanism to compensate Ukraine.

"We also do not and will not recognize the elections Russia is planning to hold in its temporarily occupied and illegally annexed territories of Ukraine. Lithuania firmly supports Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," President Gitanas Nausėda pointed out.
