When commenting on the recent case filing and investigation by public security organs into staunch "Taiwan independence" separatist Shen Pao-yang, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated on Wednesday that Taiwan is part of China, and "Taiwan independence" is a serious criminal act of splitting the country and betraying the nation. Pursuing criminal responsibility and taking law enforcement and judicial actions against a very small handful of staunch "Taiwan independence" separatists in accordance with the law is a just and necessary measure to oppose "Taiwan independence" and safeguard national unity, stated Chen.
Any staunch "Taiwan independence" separatists who test the law, regardless of their location, will face all necessary punitive measures from us, with lifelong accountability pursued according to the law, Chen emphasized.
The spokesperson added that these actions are targeted at the very few staunch "Taiwan independence" separatists whose pro-independence remarks and actions are egregious and whose separatist activities are rampant; they are not directed at nor do they involve our general compatriots in the island of Taiwan.
