"In recent times, many foreign media, experts, and scholars have criticized the Lai Ching-te administration for reckless and provocative actions, repeatedly engaging in 'independence' provocations," Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Wednesday.

He noted that this demonstrates that more and more people are seeing through the administration's true nature as a "peace destroyer" and a "troublemaker," and that it also shows that relying on external forces to "seek independence" is a futile and misguided dream.

The comments made in response to a recent statement by a columnist from the New York Times who participated in an event on the Taiwan island. The columnist said,"The old days where you could be sure you had an American president had your back, those days are over," adding that the DPP authorities should not "make any sharp moves." In turn, the head of the defense authority of the Taiwan region claimed that "Taiwan and the US have a consensus on security issues."

The spokesperson further noted that the future of Taiwan region, as well as the security, interests, and well-being of the people in Taiwan, lies in the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and national reunification.

"We hope that the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots will recognize the extreme dangers and harmful consequences of Lai Ching-te administration's stubborn adherence to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist stance, and resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and foreign interference," Chen said.

We call on them to join us in promoting the return of cross-Straits relations to the track of peaceful development, and to effectively safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits as well as their own security and well-being, said the spokesperson.
