In response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent wrongful remarks that implied the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Straits, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated on Wednesday that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of it. The egregious remarks on Taiwan gravely violate the one-China principle and brazenly interfere in China's internal affairs. "We express strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged solemn representations and strong protests with the Japanese side," Chen said.
According to the Chinese spokesperson, Japan bears historical guilt toward the Chinese people on the Taiwan question and committed countless heinous crimes during its 50-year colonial rule and enslavement of the island of Taiwan. 80 years ago, we defeated the Japanese invaders, recovered Taiwan, and ended Japan's occupation and plunder of the island. 80 years later, whoever attempts to challenge China's core interests or obstruct China's reunification will never be tolerated or allowed by the Chinese government, people, and military, stated Chen.
The spokesperson emphasized that Japan must profoundly reflect on history, learn from historical lessons, abide by the one-China principle and the spirit of the four China-Japan political documents, honor its political commitments on the Taiwan question, and handle the Taiwan question with extreme caution. "We solemnly warn the DPP authorities: any attempt to split Taiwan from China with the help of external forces is doomed to failure," said Chen.
