When responding to claims from certain individuals within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities who threatened that former Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) officials participating in the Chinese mainland's events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance on September 3 would "face risks," and that prominent figures would be prosecuted if they attended, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said that the DPP authorities, treating this as a grave threat, have resorted to all kinds of obstruction, threats, and intimidation, completely abandoning their national stance and betraying justice and conscience.
Zhu said DPP's actions severely contradict the will of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and deeply hurt their feelings, fully exposing the DPP's "Taiwan independence" nature, adding that such base and sordid behavior is shameless.
Former Chinese KMT officials and prominent figures' participation is honorable and beyond reproach, conducive to compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits remembering history, honoring the martyrs, promoting the great spirit of the War of Resistance, and jointly working toward the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Zhu added.
"For the few within the DPP authorities who openly clamor to act as enforcers or accomplices of 'Taiwan independence,' we will pursue legal accountability and resolutely crack down on them," Zhu said.
