As August 15 marks Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II (WWII), Lai Ching-te, regional leader of the island of Taiwan, posted on social media, deliberately referring to this important historical moment as the "end of WWII," while intentionally avoiding direct references to "Japanese aggression" and the "victory of the Chinese people's resistance against Japanese aggression." Commenting on this, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said that Lai has completely lost his national stance by deliberately ignoring the historical facts of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, twisting the history of WWII through conceptual manipulation and distortion of right and wrong, peddling the false narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism," and spreading the fallacy of "Taiwan independence."
In essence, this reflects his schemes of "seeking independence by force" and "relying on external forces to seek independence," said Zhu, sternly warning Lai that any attempt to distort the history of WWII will never succeed, any move to challenge the post-war international order will only bring disgrace on himself, and any plot to split the motherland is nothing but a pipe dream.
Justice will prevail, and reunification will prevail, Zhu noted.
We hope compatriots on both sides of the Straits will remember history, honor the martyrs, uphold the national interest, safeguard the fruits of victory, resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, and jointly pursue the bright future of national reunification and rejuvenation, said Zhu.
