In response to media reports that more than 500 Taiwan military personnel participated in this year's US Northern Strike drills, which for the first time shifted simulated combat scenarios from Europe to the "Indo-Pacific" region, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday that we firmly oppose any form of military contact between the US and China's Taiwan region.
We urge the US to strictly abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués, handle the Taiwan question with utmost prudence, and stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. The DPP authorities' attempt to "seek independence by relying on external forces" and "resist reunification with arms" is a sheer overestimation of their own strength and will only lead them to a dead end, the spokesperson said.
