When asked to comment on the claims made by Lai Ching-te during his speech at the opening ceremony of the "Ketagalan Forum," where he peddled the separatist fallacy of "Taiwan independence," exaggerated the so-called "mainland threat," and incited the narrative of the so-called "democracy versus authoritarianism," Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, responded on Wednesday that, Lai stubbornly adheres to the separatist stance of "Taiwan independence" and follows the erroneous paths of "relying on external forces to seek independence" and "seeking independence through military means." Lai hypes up the so-called "mainland threat" and peddles the false narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism," which exposes Lai's true nature as a "saboteur of peace," a "warmonger," and a "troublemaker," according to the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday.

Since Lai took office more than a year ago, he has engaged in "green terror" on the island, suppressing and persecuting individuals and organizations that support the development of cross-Straits relations. He has aggressively pushed for "decoupling" from the mainland, restricting exchanges and interactions. Under the guise of "democracy," he has peddled the separatist fallacy of "Taiwan independence," said Zhu.

Lai has continuously increased military spending, making "everyone-a-soldier", and has unhesitatingly bound the Taiwan people to the "'Taiwan independence' war chariot,", escalating tensions in the Taiwan Straits and attempting to "seek independence through military means." Lai disregards the economic and livelihood issues on the island, selling out the island without limits, harming the island's interests, and weakening its economy. Lai's actions seriously violate the mainstream public opinion on the island and are rejected by most Taiwan compatriots, said Zhu.

The root cause of the current tensions in the Taiwan Straits lies in the provocations of the Lai authorities and the "Taiwan independence" forces colluding with external forces to seek "independence," said Zhu. "We sternly warn the Lai authorities that forgetting one's roots will lead to a bad end; betraying the motherland will inevitably face historical judgment; 'Taiwan independence' will ultimately result in self-destruction," Zhu stated.

The trend of national reunification is unstoppable, and no one or no force can hinder it. All malicious schemes are destined to fail, Zhu said.
